  Luminara Headdress Tutorial: This headdress actually consist of two pieces; the cap and wings of the headdress.  Step 1: Remove Bill from trucker hat and line with fleece Step 2: Trace and cut out pattern for the "wings" of the headpiece. You should have 2 piece (a back and a front) that fit snugly against the sides and top of your head.  Step 3: Trace the pattern out on cardboard and cut it out. Then test to make sure that it fits your head; it is better if you line the hat with fleece and the embroidery before you start cardboard fitting tests. I didn't do this at first and it was a pain in the ass to fix. Step 4: Once you have confirmed that the cardboard snugly fits against the side of your head, reinforce each wing with 1-2 more shots of cardboard. Luminara's Robe: Trouble Shooting

Luminara's Robe: Trouble Shooting Attempt 1: I didn't expect Luminara to be an easy costume to replicate, but I was surprised by how difficult it was to source a suitable fabric for her robe! For my first attempt, I dyed some stretch velvet that had a similar pattern to that of her cloak brown with Rit Dyemore. However, as you can probably tell, the velvet still had a white sheen that just didn't look right.  Stretch Velvet, Undyed (reference) Side by side comparison (outside) Side by side comparison (inside) Attempt 2: When I went back to the drawing board, I paid special attention to the texture and consistency of the fabric. Luminara's robe is made of devoré velvet-velvet that has been eaten away in certain places by a special acid-and therefore is neither smooth nor solid.
